The Grand River Academy Summer Experience provides the solution for boys and girls entering grades 6-12, struggling from social skills challenges, electronic over-consumption issues, anxiety, depression, high functioning Autism, self-esteem challenges, or learning issues such as executive function/study habits. Throughout the two-week program, the GRA Summer Experience will focus on teaching participants successful social skills, new hobbies/activities, mindfulness, emotional health, physical health, academic/study skills, and healthy electronic usage through real-life experiences and direct instruction,

Emphasizing the importance of social, emotional, academic, and recreational growth, participants will be engaged in a fun and holistic process to discover new recreational interests, successful social interactions with peers, academic strategies, and emotional health.  For those who need assistance, an extra focus will be extended to individuals with electronic over-consumption challenges.

This program is created in conjunction with internationally recognized social skills and electronic/gaming addiction expert, author, and psychologist, Jay Berk, .Ph.D. The GRA Summer experience addresses issues faced by participants through a combination of individual, group, and family therapy, As well, fun recreational experiences are a significant part of the day. Participants collectively work through their challenges in a supportive and welcoming community while engaged in new recreational and team building activities.

The GRA Summer Experience engages students in many fun activities. Participants will participate in a variety of “unplugged activities” such as arts and crafts, ultimate frisbee, hiking, and kayaking. When participants are not engaged in a recreational activity, they will be spending their time in either group or individual therapy, academic support strategy sessions, social experiences, and if needed, help on discovering and countering the underlying causes of their electronic over-consumption, learning issues, emotional, or social skill challenges. For those in need, therapeutic support will be available after the two week experience.
