Grand River Academy Welcomes New School Zone to Enhance Boarding School Safety
Grand River Academy Welcomes New School Zone to Enhance Boarding School Safety
Kelli Jones

Grand River Academy is excited to report that new school zone signs are now up on College Street. With the January passing of House Bill 455 into law, which "authorizes a municipal corporation or township to establish a boarding school zone and a special speed limit within that zone" the speed limit is now restricted to 20mph at all times. This further allows GRA to teach students in a safe educational environment, while also promoting peace of mind among students, faculty, and families.

This was a team effort led by State Representative John Patterson and State Representative Kristina Roegner, who cosigned the bill. In April of 2016, GRA Headmaster Tim Viands traveled to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus to present testimony on the bill. Executive Director of the Ohio Association of Independent Schools, and former Ohio State Representative, Dan Dodd, also presented on the issue.

Grand River Academy Headmaster Tim Viands shares, "With the signs now posted, it highlights the collaboration of state representatives who worked together to help make a safer community for our students and families as we enter into a new school year."
