Austinburg, OH – May 16, 2018 – Grand River Academy announces Mr. Tim Oditt as next Head of School, effective July 1, 2018. This unanimous decision by the Board of Trustees follows an extensive national search assisted by John Farber of RG-175. This process, which included multiple campus visits and meetings with the school community, identified Mr. Oditt as the top candidate to lead Grand River Academy onward in its mission in helping boys succeed in school and in life.
Acting Head of School and former Board Chair Mr. Steve Schoneman states that "the experience and dedication Mr. Oditt brings to Grand River Academy and his commitment to single-gender education will continue to propel GRA forward. His enthusiasm and support for not just the students and their families, but also to the faculty and staff will provide the best environment for the boys to thrive. We're delighted to welcome Tim and his family to campus. It is an exciting time for Grand River Academy."
Tim Oditt began his career in education as a boys' basketball coach at the Canterbury Episcopal School in 2004 following service in the US Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His dedication to independent school education continued at Hargrave Military Academy where he has served as Faculty, Residential Life Instructor, Athletic Director, and in his current role since 2014 as Assistant Headmaster and Chief of Staff. He completed his B.A. in History from University of Texas at Arlington and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from University of North Texas.
Joining Mr. Oditt on campus will be his wife Jennifer, and two children. Mr. Oditt expressed his enthusiasm for this new role, stating, "Jennifer and I are thrilled to be joining a community that is dedicated to activating the potential of boys in all aspects of their lives. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know the families of Grand River Academy as, together, we prepare our young men for lifelong success."
GRA Board member and Search Committee Chair, Sharon Tiknis, noted, "The Search Committee included board, faculty and staff members who were all impressed with Tim as both a decisive leader and consensus builder. He demonstrated impressive results in his approach to working with faculty to ensure the success of each student. Grand River Academy will soon celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2018 and the end of the school year and looks forward to this new chapter in Grand River Academy's history.
