Beginning its third year of STEAM Days, Grand River Academy is excited to host its March STEAM Saturday on March 4th from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. This popular event is offered to local students entering first through eighth grade and has participants from across Ashtabula County. The 2016 – 2017 STEAM Days are sponsored by Ashtabula Roto-Rooter.
The focus of March’s event is “Refraction Action.” Children will spend the morning in GRA’s Robert S. Morrison Lecture Center learning about light and refraction. They will then apply that knowledge through different tactile activities throughout the day, such as making kaleidoscopes and stained glass.
Dean of Academics, Guidance and College Placement and STEAM Team leader Melissa Nipper says, “GRA STEAM Days allow kids in our community, including my own two boys, to learn new scientific concepts and how to apply them through the use of hands-on activities. I can’t believe we’re already celebrating our second anniversary and we’re planning for our summer session. ”
