Alumni Weekend Success!

Alumni Weekend Success!

Saturday, May 28, 2016 was a milestone for 36 Grand River Academy families. That morning, 36 young men graduated from GRA, crossing the stage to receive their well-earned diploma.

Graduation is always a joyous and exciting time at Grand River Academy. It is the culmination of our mission in helping young men activate their academic, emotional, and social potential, and it signifies the beginning of future successes for our graduates as the newest members to the GRA alumni brotherhood. This year in particular holds significant meaning, as GRA is celebrating its 185th anniversary during 2016.

Over 30 alumni and their families returned campus to celebrate Graduation, the 4th Annual Alumni Take a Stand, and Alumni Weekend. Leading the Alumni Take a Stand initiative was Mr. Darrell McGraw '96. At the close of Graduation, Mr. McGraw asked his fellow alumni and their families to "Take a Stand" and be honored. The graduating class of 2016 was then asked to "Take a Stand" themselves, thus joining a very elite club - the distinguished graduates of Grand River Academy. Click here for Mr. McGraw's remarks

Following Graduation, alumni were invited to participate in a variety of activities and events including a personal tour of campus, a visit to the Ashtabula Harbor, a community BBQ dinner at the Bud Field Student Center, an Alumni Brunch, and a traditional photo on the steps of Armington Hall. Alumni from across generations shared memories, while also making new connections with the extended GRA alumni network.

Alumni Weekend is important, and meaningful, because when alumni come back to campus, they are supporting new generations of GRA graduates as they embark onto what is next in their life. Our alumni have had similar experiences, and have faced similar obstacles, but have overcome them. Allowing our students to see where they will be in one year , five years, twenty years, or forty years is a spectacular opportunity.

It is our hope when you come home to Grand River Academy, you share in the memories of your experience on campus - and in the success those experiences helped to create.

As always, I love having the opportunity to speak with alumni and friends of Grand River Academy.
