Success comes in many forms, as seen with this week's Alumni Spotlight Jay Damodaran '11.
Following graduation from GRA in 2011, Jay attended Drexel University for a short time until he decided college wasn't the right fit for his future plans. Ever the entrepreneur, Jay worked at several tech companies in Silicon Valley, and started his own company as well. During this time he interacted with many military contractors and agents when he had a renewed interest in the armed forces, spending time with Special Operations Units.
Jay is now a mechanized infantry soldier at the 1st armored division in Fort Bliss, Tx. He rides Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles and participates in exercises very similarly to a video he wanted shared to give a better perspective of his work:
Jay is currently in the infantry and able to be deployed at any time, although he expects to go to Iraq, Kuwait, or Eastern Europe next year.
Reflecting on his time here on campus, Jay remembers always looking forward to wrestling and tennis practice because of the hilarious conversations and antics of Mr. Riddell. One of his favorite memories of GRA include, "hanging out with Kevin Muvunyi, Sanghoo Lee, David Thomas, and Mr. Kovacik. We'd drink coffee and talk endlessly about whatever idea we happened to have."
Asked for what advice Jay would give current students, he said , "to put your free time to good use and gain good habits. Research different exercise programs and get into great shape in the gym. Read books about things you personally find interesting. If you put forth the effort GRA will put you on a track to succeed at whatever you want to do."
