Success comes in many forms, as seen with this week's Alumni Spotlight featuring Mike Good '09. Mike will be the first to tell you that his path from Grand River Academy to his current home and career in Akron, Ohio would surprise many people, including even himself.
Following graduation from GRA, Mike worked as a private security officer for several Akron based organizations. He had a passion for helping people by serving his community and therefore decided to enter the world of first responders. Mike graduated from the State of Ohio Fire Academy in 2015 and now serves as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Fire Fighter with the Akron Fire Department.
Outside of work, Mike is actively involved in his church where he occasionally leads services. He also enjoys training physically for his career. He often thinks back to his time at GRA and misses most the campus life and atmosphere of a caring family in the dorm and classroom. His proudest memory is Graduation 2009.
Mike shared that his advice to current students would be simple: "Don't give up. Don't ever give up." Words spoken by Jimmy Valvano that grace the wall in Armington Dining Hall that helped him overcome obstacles in his life to be the successful professional he is today. He is actively involved in the Grand River Academy Alumni Association and other campus activities "to give back to GRA for everything they've given to me".
