Success comes in many forms, as seen with this week's Alumni Spotlight, Dr. Ben Szajewski '03.
Ben graduated from Grand River Academy in the Spring of 2003, and shortly thereafter attended Monroe Community College (MCC) for several classes. He then entered the workforce and after several years, decided to recommit to college. First, he attended MCC, then Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and finished with his graduate degree from Brown University.
While Ben was working towards his PhD, he moved to Switzerland continuing his research. Ben's work is focused on enhancing our fundamental understanding of the physics of metal plasticity-that is how metals deform and fail under stress. While working in Switzerland, he took a bike tour one summer across the country, the Alps, and part of Austria. Ben would love to try a similar experience, only this time in the Himalayas.
Ben enjoys his memories of GRA and misses sitting in on both Mr. Riddell's physics class and Mrs. Field's math class. He also misses the three medium pizzas for $15 from Domino's! He shares, "The best advice I could offer would be to find one, or possibly two, things you are interested in - be stubborn and dedicated towards their pursuit. Do not give up independent of what anyone tells you."
