“Why don’t we have lacrosse?” That refrain seemed to be heard every year for the past two decades as the formerly eastern based sport found its way across the country.
When GRA parents Brian & Karen Bailey (Chris, ’08) made their generous gift to Annual Giving , they marked some of those funds for the development of a lacrosse program. Athletic Director Scott McNevan bought lax equipment for his Phys. Ed. classes, and he noted that several of our students had some lacrosse background. Others, football, soccer and basketball players, had the endurance, power or hand/eye coordination that this exciting sport necessitates. They all seemed to have fun with the new skills.
“We have a beautiful, tournament level field for soccer that sits dormant in the Spring”, said McNevan. “We have talked to a few area schools about scheduling games, and we have already begun the search for a coach. With any luck, I think we can be playing club lacrosse this spring at Grand River Academy”.
