Learning Differences Continued

Student Responsibilities

All Grand River Academy students must take responsibility for their education by:

  1. acquainting themselves with and striving to meet all academic and citizenship expectations
  2. asking questions, writing down assignments, working to be better organized, attending all classes on time, seeking and attending special help sessions, and communicating concerns to teachers and dormmasters
  3. working to use the classroom, resource center, library, multimedia center, study hall, study period, special help sessions, and Saturday study sessions effectively and wisely
  4. following all instructions regarding the dispensing and use of medications
  5. being respectful and responsive to all teacher requests

Students may consult with the Care Team, the guidance counselor, their teacher, their advisors, the consulting school psychologists and counselors, and/or their parents to accomplish these responsibilities.

Parent Responsibilities

Parents must continue to support the social, academic, and personal development of their son at Grand River Academy by:

  1. supplying complete and accurate information regarding the student’s medical, psychological, and educational background during the application process and after enrollment
  2. providing specific information regarding the student’s learning and behavioral strengths and weaknesses during the application process
  3. following all guidelines as prescribed in the contract, parent handbook, and student handbook
  4. assuming financial responsibility for counseling services provided by consulting professionals and/or the Resource Center
  5. attending parent days, special parent/teacher conferences, and other school activities, if possible
  6. becoming part of a support network with Academy teachers, dormmasters, and consultants

Individual Education Plans (I.E.Ps) and 504 Plans

At times, students come to Grand River Academy from public schools in which I.E.P.s or 504 plans have been created and implemented. We are very interested in reviewing copies of these plans, but we are not obligated to follow Individual Education Plans. However, the Academy will make reasonable accommodations for students who qualify.
