Grand River Academy was excited to host its July STEAM Experience on July 12th from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. This popular event is offered to local students entering first through eighth grade and has participants from across Ashtabula County. The 2017 – 2018 STEAM Days are sponsored by Ashtabula Roto-Rooter.
The focus of this event was "Defying Gravity." Just over 40 children learned the physics behind gravity and how to make items fly in classes that are based on their grade levels. They then applied that knowledge to seeing how far they can make items soar by building their own catapults.
Headmaster Tim Viands shares, "The summer STEAM Experience is always exciting because we're able to plan some fun, outdoor activities to teach the kids about science. I can't believe this is our eighth session of this program that allows students to learn new concepts and how to apply them through the use of tactile and group activities." The GRA STEAM team has already scheduled its fall STEAM event for Saturday, October 21, 2017.
